There are two types of games when you launch a console: the one that shows off how pretty the console can make games, and the zany fun one. Knack is the latter – but you’d be hard-pressed to find a more boring game this year.
It’s the brainchild of Mark Cerny, essentially the man behind the PS4 itself, and so maybe that explains how such a basic and tiresome platformer made its way onto the system. But as one of only two launch titles, it’s inexplicable.
You play a cute little robot who moves from room-to-room killing another robot or a monster. That’s it. Seriously. No combos, no extra moves, no variety… no point. Well, unless you need coasters in your flat – the disk works perfectly.
Maybe children will lap this game up. But when you remember the PlayStation has previously launched iconic “kiddie games” like Crash Bandicoot or Spyro The Dragon, even they’ll probably tell you that Knack is totally knackered.
