Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
The now yearly Assassin’s Creed franchise is back, and this time they’re tackling the age of pirates. Captain Jack Sparrow, Captain Pugwash and that one-legged pirate from your LEGO pirate ship as a kid… don’t feature. Bah!
Like always, we’re getting some historically accurate stuff. Well, in as much as a game where you can use some techno babble machine to travel back into the memories of your ancestors can ever be seen as Simon bloody Schama.
You play Edward Kenway, a high-flying British privateer-turned-pirate and eventual member of the Assassin Order. It’s the ultimate pirate experience, from ship battles to sailing the high seas to explore to 50 unique locations.
It feels like a huge step forward from the so-so Assassin’s Creed III. The ship gameplay, in particular – boarding ships, firing the canons and recruiting a crew – is brilliant fun. For our money, the best Assassin’s game yet!
